How To Clean Your Shofar
Try using one of the following methods depending on the type of cleaning needed.
Pour synthetic vinegar into the large end plugging the mouthpiece. Plug the wide end with a microfiber
cloth and shake over the period of 1 minute. Repeat with warm soapy water, and dry your shofar.
Deeper cleaning method
Once a shofar is used try using equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and water to clean your shofar.
A soft microfiber cloth works well to clean and dry your shofar. Please do not use bleach for cleaning!
Sometimes it is necessary to do a deeper cleaning. Try aquarium gravel by blocking the mouthpiece with an earplug, filling up your shofar 1/3 full of aquarium gravel and shaking for 1-2 minutes!
Once completed clean your shofar with the light clean or deeper clean wash and rinse (above).
Drying TipIf you have a large shofar and are having a hard time drying your shofar try using a
blow dryer with “low” heat until dry.
To maintain the beauty of your shofar a microcrystalline wax polish can be used. This will assure also maintain your beauty and longevity of your Shofar.
Shofar StorageBe sure your shofar is cleaned and dry before storing! Do not store a shofar in direct sunlight or in a
room that is dark and moist. Storing your shofar at room temperature in a dry location will give the best longevity.
